Improve Decision Making

The workshop will cover brain and cognitive issues relating to decision making. It will then connect the cognitive science issues to practical and specific issues in corporate decision making. The workshop will include many engaging illustrations, as well as hands on exercises.

The workshop will include:

  1. Background knowledge of the human mind and the cognitive system.
  2. Provide details of how information and knowledge is acquired, processed, represented, encoded, stored, utilised, retrieved, compared, evaluated and how decisions are made.
  3. Connect the above to the variety of issues and examples that attendees deal with in their work.
  4. Examine how cognitive factors can be utilised to make better decisions, avoid error, and work more efficiently.

Dr Itiel Dror

Dr Itiel Dror

Cognitive neuroscientist, Cognitive Consultants International Limited (CCI-HQ)

Dr. Itiel Dror is a cognitive neuroscientist. Interested in the cognitive architecture that underpins expertise, he attained his Ph.D. from Harvard University in 1994. His academic work relates to theoretical issues underlying human performance and cognition.

Dror's research examines the information processing involved in perception, judgment and decision-making. He has published over 100 research articles.

Dr. Dror has worked with govermental bodies in many countries (e.g., The UK, Netherlands, Finland, Canada, U.S. and Australia) on examining expert decision making and error.

Dr Dror received the ABP (Association for Business Psychology) 2014 Annual Award for 'Excellence in Training' for his work in improving decision making and reducing bias in expert domains. Furthermore, he also received the ABP Chairman's Award, for overall recognition across all the 17 categories, for the best achievements for 'Excellence in Business Psychology'.

The ABP Awards recognise excellence on demonstrating how applying an understanding of the science of human behaviour can impact and deliver practical value to organisations.

The judges commented that Dr. Dror's work is: "Truly outstanding and inspiring", "innovative, breaking entirely new ground in a most challenging context - already being used around the world", and "Entirely focused on application of conceptual models - underpinned by deep research".

Workshop will include many examples, illustrations, demos, and exercises. These will include:

- Decision making under dynamically changing alternative choices and time pressure

- Perception and analysis of complex situations

- Pitfalls in command and intelligence decision making, including tactical and operational decisions
